New York, US: A 26-year-old man identified as Luigi Mangione has been arrested on Monday as a suspect in the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York, last week.

Police found Luigi Mangione carrying a manifesto against ‘corporate America’ at the time of his arrest.

The two-page handwritten document called out the healthcare industry for profiteering above care and it suggested violence as an answer, according to reports.

Mangione claimed in the note that he had acted on his own and was self-funded, saying that ‘These parasites had it coming’.

Lamenting the cost of healthcare in the US, Mangione, asked why it has become the most expensive in the world but got poorly rating for life expectancy.

Meanwhile it is reported that the US ranked 49 in life expectancy, and is expected to drop down to 66th position globally in 2050, according to the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation.

Nevertheless the manifesto, his motive for killing Thompson is still unknown and is viewed as a political act.

Police earlier found words 'Deny, defend, depose' engraved on the casings of the bullet Mangione used to kill Thompson.

Alongside the manifesto, he was found in possession of a gun and a silencer at the time of his arrest an Altoona, Pennsylvania, McDonald's on Monday morning.

Mangione, Ivy League graduate, is charged with possession of an illegal weapon, forgery and other crimes in Pennsylvania.

He was arrested after an employee at the fast-food chain recognized him, alerting the police that ‘He was sitting there eating’, according to The Guardian.

Mangione was arraigned upon presenting at Pennsylvania court on Tuesday and is due to appear in court on December 23.

An unidentified gunman shot Brian Thompson, 50, in the chest outside the hotel New York Hilton Midtown on West 54th Street last Wednesday.

The incident led to a nation-wide search for the killer which eventually led to the arrest of Luigi Mangione.
