As per the United Nations, India is the largest expatriate country in the world with 1.8 million people living away from their homeland. Other countries producing more ex-pats are Mexico, Russia (1.1 million each), China (1.0 million) and Syria (80 million). The United Arab Emirates (35 lakhs), the US (27 lakhs) and Saudi Arabia (25 lakhs) are the countries that receive most of the expatriates from India.
