Islamabad: -An Islamabad trial court has declared Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan guilty of "corrupt practices" in the Toshakhana case and has sentenced him to three years in prison. The court also imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on the PTI chief. The trial court also barred him from participating in active politics for five years.

The Toshakhana case revolves around allegations of Imran Khan concealing details of gifts received through the state's Toshakhana (state gift repository). The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had filed a criminal complaint against Imran Khan, leading to his indictment on May 10.

During the course of the trial, Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Humayun Dilawar presided over the proceedings. Today, Judge Dilawar announced the verdict, stating that the charges against the former prime minister have been proven beyond doubt.

"Imran Khan deliberately submitted fake details to the Election Commission of Pakistan and is found guilty of corrupt practices," Judge Dilawar declared. Consequently, Imran Khan has been sentenced to three years in prison under Section 174 of the Election Act.

ADSJ Dilawar also directed the Islamabad police chief to ensure the execution of the court's orders. As the news of the verdict spread, a heightened security presence was observed around Imran Khan's residence and other key areas of the city.
