EU sanctions 15 Iranian officials, 6 organisations over brutal crackdown
text_fieldsBrussels: The European Union on Thursday announced sanctions on 15 Iranian officials, including senior commanders and officials of the paramilitary Revolutionary Guard, over Tehran’s deadly crackdown on nationwide protests.
The measures also target six Iranian organisations, marking the latest Western response to the violence, which activists say has left more than 6,300 people dead.
The decision comes as a US aircraft carrier group is deployed in the Middle East, following President Donald Trump’s warning of potential military action against Iran.
Iran did not immediately comment on the EU sanctions but has criticised Europe in recent days as Brussels considered the move. The EU’s action follows other sanctions previously imposed on Iran by multiple countries.
