Covid surge in Russia: 50,000 plus cases in single day
text_fieldsMoscow: Russia registered 50,000 plus Covid-19 cases for the second successive day on Saturday, Moscow's coronavirus task force informed. The nation recorded 51,699 cases in 24 hours, which is the top count since March 9, Reuters reported.
Friday added 50,000 plus cases in the country for the first time in nearly six months. In July and August, infections spiked after highly contagious variants of the Covid-19 virus entered circulation in the country.
The Covid-19 task force further said that the death count in the said 24 hours was 92.
Meanwhile, excess of fatality statistics suggests that Russia is among the most affected countries by Covid-19. This was attributed to the slow vaccination drive and the government giving less care in imposing restrictions other than a short lockdown in 2020.
