Bangladesh bus veers off road, killing 17, injuring 45
text_fieldsDhaka: A passenger bus that ran off the road and into a body of water in Bangladesh's Jhalokati district resulted in at least 17 deaths and 45 injuries, according to a senior police official.
On Saturday morning, a passenger bus carrying 13 people fell into a roadside waterbody in a district some 200 kilometres south of the capital Dhaka, according to Muhammed Afruzul Huqe Tutul, the district's police chief. Thirteen people died at the scene.
All the injured were taken to local hospitals and clinics, where four more died, said the officer.
He added the death toll might rise as some of the injured passengers were rescued in critical conditions, Xinhua news agency reported.
The accident occurred as the driver lost control of the vehicle and plunged into the roadside waterbody, according to the official.
