New Delhi: Most Ukrainians are distraught in the Russian attack, as their country helplessly see Russian soldiers in the streets.

Their president is appealing to the world for help, which falls in deaf ears.

In the difficult situation thousands of Ukrainians are fleeing the country with more packing their belongings.

This is according to a report in the Guardian, which gleans the information from social posts showing car lining up the streets.

Cars are moving out of cities heading west as well as there are people on foot near southern and western borders, according to the report.

Nearly corroborating the report, UN refugee agency on Thursday said as much about the deteriorating situation in the nation.

'The agency requested neigbouring countries to keep their borders open, the report said.

"We have already seen reports of casualties and people starting to flee their homes to seek safety," said Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, The Guardian reported.

At a point in Ukraine's border with Hungary to the west, hundreds of cars tailed back for more than 2 kilometers on Thursday afternoon.

Weary people waited in their cars for over six hours to the traffic to uncoil.

Many Ukrainians are planning to move to Western Europe, making one official say, "The people who have money are leaving". He said over 1,500 people had left through the crossing by 4 p.m. on Thursday.
