Baghdad: Iran's foreign minister said that officials of foreign countries asked his government about the possibility of opening a ‘new front’ against Israel in the ongoing war.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian’s remarks gathers importance as many fear the likelihood of countries and outfits hostile to Israel opening multi-front war against their common enemy.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, however, said that a new front against Israel will depend on its action’s in Gaza, news agency AFP reported.

Iran is considered to be the ‘a long-term backer of Hamas’ and other Middle East militant groups, according to the report.

Meanwhile, Iranian authorities vehemently denied having any involvement in the Hamas attack against Israel on Saturday.

Meanwhile, AFP reported the US as worrying about the armed group Hezbollah opening a second front on Israel’s northern border with Lebanon.

It is against this backdrop Iran minister, after meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, said: ‘Officials of some countries contact us and ask about the possibility of a new front (against Israel) being opened in the region’ .

Iranian foreign ministry quoted the foreign minister as saying that opening a new front ‘depends on the actions of the Zionist regime in Gaza’.

On Thursday pro-Iran groups including Hezbollah and Hamas received Hossein Amir-Abdollahian when he arrived in Lebanese capital Beirut and after meeting official there he will head to Damascus on Friday.

He told the media at the Beirut airport that Iran’s regional allies will respond if Israel’s Gaza offensive escalates.

Reports from warfront say more casualties including death, devastation, and lack of food, water, and healthcare.

The fresh bouts of conflict began on Saturday morning with Hamas attack on Israel, which has turned into a full-blown war after Israel hit back.
