Ukraine: First week's casualty 249; 553 injured
text_fieldsGeneva, Paris: The UN human rights office confirmed on Thursday that 249 civilians had been killed and 553 injured after the first week of the Russian invasion into Ukraine, Reuters reported.
The toll was 227 on deaths and 525 on injured the day before.
In a statement, the office said that most of the deaths were out of the use of weapons with a wide impact area. This includes artillery shelling and multi-launch rocket systems as well as missile and airstrikes.
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron is of the belief that the worst is yet to come regarding the Ukraine crisis. After a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Macron understood that the former has strong intentions to seize the whole of Ukraine, Agence France-Presse reported, citing an assistant of Macron.
The aide said that Putin wants to totally 'de-Nazify' Ukraine.
The source said that Macron urged Putin to reduce civilian casualties and allow channels for humanitarian access. But Putin has denied that his military is targeting civilians and their infrastructure.
Denying tensions between the two presidents, the aide said that Macron would move more sanctions over Russia and increase the latter's cost of invasion.
Meanwhile, China urged Russia and Ukraine to ensure the safety and security of nuclear facilities established in the latter as the fear of a man-made disaster is around with Russian aggression into Ukraine, PTI reported. Without naming Russia or Ukraine, Beijing said that the two must be cautious against nuclear disasters.
