New Delhi: A Turkish Airlines flight, flying from Seattle to Istanbul, made emergency landing in New York Wednesday after the pilot died, The New York Times reported.

The flight made landing at Kennedy International Airport after Pilot Ilcehin Pehlivan, 59, lost consciousness during the flight and medical efforts to revive him failed.

A second pilot and a co-pilot took over the controls. The plane, Flight 204, headed for New York when it was over Baffin Island in northern Canada, landing at the Kennedy International Airport at 5:57 a.m nearly eight hours after it took off from Seattle.

Pehlivan, who had been working with Turkish Airlines since 2007, had regular health examinations and was found to have no specific health issues.

It is reported citing an airline spokesperson that arrangements were made to bring passengers to their destination.

Pilots have to undergo medical examinations in every 12 months and those aged above 40 years take it in every six months, according to a report.
