Google has officially launched its AI chatbot app, Google Gemini, in India, as announced by CEO Sundar Pichai on Tuesday.

Initially introduced in the US in February, the app now brings the capabilities of Google's Large Language Models (LLMs) to Indian users. It supports English and nine Indian languages, offering a broad linguistic reach.

The advanced version of the app, Gemini Advanced, will also support these languages.

In a recent blog post, Google confirmed that the Gemini app is now accessible on the Google Play Store in India. The app supports a total of 10 languages: English, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

Users can download the app directly or access it through Google Assistant to use the AI chatbot.

Sundar Pichai shared the news via a post on X (formerly Twitter). Alongside the app's launch, Google is upgrading Gemini Advanced, which is available under the Google One subscription. This advanced version features a larger token context window and utilizes the power of Gemini 1.5 Pro, supporting the same nine Indian languages as the standard Gemini app.

With Gemini Advanced, users can upload documents up to 1,500 pages or 100 emails and ask the AI chatbot to summarize them. The app also provides insights based on the uploaded content. Additionally, it can “clean, explore, analyze, and visualize data” from spreadsheets in Google Sheets, CSV files, or Excel documents.

Google assures users that their files remain private and are not used to train AI models.

While Android users in India can download the Gemini app from the Google Play Store, iOS users will access it through the Google app.

Google has also integrated Gemini into the Google Messages app in India. This feature, previously available to users outside India, allows Indian users to converse with the AI chatbot within the Messages app. The rollout is limited to select devices, specifically Android handsets with 6GB RAM or higher.
