DRDO successfully tests full range of ‘Pralay’ quasi-ballistic missile

New Delhi: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully completed range capability tests of the indigenously developed quasi-ballistic missile system ‘Pralay’ over two days from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha, an official said on Tuesday.
The User Evaluation Trials, conducted on Monday and Tuesday, aimed to validate both the minimum and maximum range capabilities of the solid-propellant missile. The Defence Ministry confirmed that the tests met all set objectives, with the missiles precisely following their intended trajectory and striking the designated target points with pinpoint accuracy.
All subsystems functioned as expected, and the results were verified using data collected from a range of tracking sensors deployed by the Integrated Test Range (ITR), including instruments positioned on a ship near the impact site.
‘Pralay’, a surface-to-surface missile system, is capable of carrying multiple types of warheads and is designed to engage a variety of targets. The advanced missile incorporates state-of-the-art guidance and navigation systems, enhancing its operational precision and reliability.
The missile system has been developed by DRDO’s Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories including the Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Advanced Systems Laboratory, Armament Research and Development Establishment, High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory, and Research and Development Establishment (Engineers), among others. The development has also involved key industry partners such as Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited, along with contributions from numerous private sector companies and MSMEs.
The successful flight tests were witnessed by senior DRDO scientists, representatives of the Indian Air Force and Indian Army, as well as members of the industry.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauded the DRDO, the Armed Forces, and industry partners for the successful trials. He said that the missile, equipped with cutting-edge technologies, would significantly strengthen the Armed Forces’ capabilities in countering various threats.
Secretary, Department of Defence R-&D and DRDO Chairman Dr Samir V. Kamat also congratulated all teams involved. He noted that the successful completion of this first phase of flight tests marks an important step towards the missile system’s induction into the Armed Forces in the near future.
