Berlin: BMW has announced that it is bringing a new battery assembly line and new cell vanishing lines at its plant in Germany's Leipzig. The company had earlier announced that it will be scaling up EV battery production in the US.

The luxury brand said the batteries will be used for its fully electric Mini Countryman crossover. An earlier report had said BMW is moving production of its electric Mini models from the UK to Germany and China to streamline production. The 100% electric version of the Mini Countryman is expected to debut in 2023. It will also be produced at the Leipzig plant.

The Mini Aceman is expected to launch in 2024 and it will be BMW's first all-electric MINI crossover sport activity vehicle (SAV). The company recently said it will invest $1.7 billion to build electric vehicles (EVs) in the US. USD 1 billion will be invested in producing electric vehicles at the company's existing US manufacturing facility in South Carolina. $700 million will be used to build a new high-voltage battery assembly facility near Woodruff.
