New Delhi: Following the call for the boycott of Reliance as part of the farmers' protests in the capital, Jio faced a drastic fall in the number of active users. Airtel has come forth, defeating Jio, to be the telecom company with the most active users. While Airtel had 55 lakh new customers in December, Jio had only 32 lakh new users. Data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) reveals that Vodafone-Idea lost 15 lakh customers.

In December, Jio mobile towers were destroyed in Delhi, Haryana and Punjab amidst the protests. Reliance has alleged that their opponents used the opportunity to their advantage and had customers port to their services. However, Airtel and others have denied these allegations.

However, in January, there was an increase of 1.7 per cent in the number of Airtel users and 1 per cent for Jio. Vodafone Idea lost 0.6% of users.
