Throughout his career, Kurian has held various positions in the BJP, from the district president of Vidyarthi Morcha in 1981 to the national vice-president of Yuva Morcha, demonstrating loyalty to the party even during challenging times, such as the violent protests by the Sangh Parivar in 1982 against a church near Sabarimala.
