Tokyo Olympics: Aditi Ashok misses bronze medal narrowly, finishes fourth

Tokyo: Indian golfer Aditi Ashok finished fourth in the Olympic women's stroke play, with an aggregate score of 15-under 269 on Saturday, reports IANS. She narrowly missed the bronze medal but had made a notable performance in this tournament since she only had finished 41st in the 2016 Rio Games.

World no 200, Aditi had exhibited a sensational performance in most of the tournament, The Wire reported. She started at second place in Saturday's fourth and final round and shot a three-under 68. She- 3-under after 16 holes- was tied with New Zealand's Lydia Ko- 5-under in 16 holes- for the third spot until a storm disrupted the fourth and final round of the golf competition. The two were at 15-under overall.

Nelly Korda, world no one, of the United States, claimed gold with a 17-under 267 while Japan's Mone Inami and New Zealand's KO Lydia shared the silver.

According to Mint, Aditi said after the match that she didn't have her best and was inconsistent. She said her putting was not as good as the two previous days', but fortunately, she didn't make too many bogeys. She was recently recovered from Covid-19 and said that it took her strength a bit.

India never touched a medal in Olympic golf, and this is, however, the highest finish for the country so far. Tweets of appreciation and support are now flooding for Aditi Ashok.
