The family of Argentine football legend Diego Maradona has announced the launch of a foundation dedicated to preserving his legacy, along with a planned memorial site in Buenos Aires.

Named the "M10 Memorial," the site is set to open in 2025 in the popular Puerto Madero district and is expected to welcome up to a million visitors annually, according to its official website.

Maradona’s daughter, Dalma Maradona, shared the family’s vision for the memorial during a presentation on YouTube, expressing that the site would allow fans to pay tribute to Maradona, fulfilling the wish of those who want to leave a flower for their idol. “We want our father to remain close to the people who loved him,” Dalma explained.

The 1,000-square-meter memorial will offer free access for Argentines, and those who contribute to the Maradona Foundation will have the opportunity to feature their photo on a dedicated “heritage wall.” Dalma also noted that the foundation was created to “honor and preserve Maradona’s legacy” and is managed by her and four of Maradona's other children.

In an effort to make Maradona’s resting place accessible to fans, a court recently approved the relocation of his remains from a cemetery to a mausoleum planned at the future memorial site. This decision enables both locals and international fans to pay homage to one of Argentina’s most beloved figures.

Diego Maradona passed away at age 60 in November 2020, following complications from a brain surgery. His death, attributed to a heart attack, occurred just two weeks after he underwent surgery to treat a blood clot. Maradona's passing also sparked an investigation into potential negligence by his medical team, which remains ongoing.

The M10 Memorial aims to keep Maradona’s memory alive, welcoming fans from across the globe to celebrate the life and career of a football icon in the heart of Buenos Aires.
