IPL: DC batters forget business; CSK crushes DC to reach qualifiers
text_fieldsNew Delhi: In their home ground, Arun Jaitley stadium here, the Delhi Capitals sustained another pathetic loss after their batters, saving skipper David Warner, brought out nothing to give any hope against the mighty Chennai Super Kings Saturday afternoon.
Dhoni’s CSK crushed the DC for 77 runs to seal a play-off berth this season. Openers Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 87 off 52 and 79 off 50 to take the yellow army to a severe total of 223/3 after Dhoni opted to bat first, winning the toss.
DC skipper Warner waged a lone battle as he was doing so far season to take his team shore, scoring 86 off 58 during the chase. But at the opposite end, batters came and left, particularly under CSK’s Deepak Chahar attack. Chahar had removed a couple of DC batters in the powerplay itself. DC only managed to score 149, sacrificing nine wickets in 20 overs, at least saving themselves from going all out. None of the DC batters could surpass score 15 other than Warner. Prithvi Shaw, Yash Dhull, Lalit Patel and Aman Hakim Khan continued to embarrass batting itself, reports PTI.
Further, at the home ground of Delhi, the crowd was cheering for Chennai, particularly Dhoni. They even cheered when Delhi lost wickets.
When Deepak Chahar took three wickets, conceding 22 runs, Mahesh Theekshana took two conceding the same, but in the last over. CSK has reached 17 points with the majestic win and became the second team to reach the qualifiers.
