Gujarat Titans crush SRH by 82 runs, go top of IPL points table
text_fieldsAhmedabad: Gujarat Titans produced a commanding all-round performance to defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 82 runs in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, a win that lifted them to the top of the Indian Premier League points table.
Batting first on a two-paced surface, Gujarat Titans posted 168/7, built around gritty half-centuries from Sai Sudharsan (61 off 44 balls) and Washington Sundar (50 off 33 balls). The duo held the innings together after early setbacks and ensured a competitive total on a difficult pitch, with Sundar accelerating in the final phase through fluent strokeplay and Sudharsan anchoring with controlled aggression.
SRH’s bowling effort was led by Praful Hinge, who impressed with 3–17, while captain Pat Cummins kept things tight with 1–20.
In reply, SRH collapsed dramatically to 86 in 14.5 overs, undone by a ruthless Gujarat bowling attack. Kagiso Rabada spearheaded the destruction with 3/28, removing top-order batters with incisive new-ball spells that left SRH reeling early. He was well supported by Mohammed Siraj, who struck immediately with a wicket-maiden, and later by Jason Holder, whose 3/20 spell broke the backbone of the chase after the powerplay.
SRH’s top order collapsed quickly, with Travis Head falling early, followed by Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Heinrich Klaasen as wickets tumbled at regular intervals. Nitish Kumar Reddy also fell cheaply as SRH slumped to 60/7 inside a disastrous batting effort, with skipper Cummins top-scoring with 19.
Earlier, Gujarat’s innings had also seen brief resistance from Shubman Gill (5) and Jos Buttler (7), both dismissed early by disciplined SRH bowling. However, Sudharsan and Sundar rebuilt the innings through a key 60-run stand for the fourth wicket, stabilising after a powerplay that saw Gujarat reduced to 34/2.
Despite early breakthroughs, SRH could not sustain pressure as Gujarat’s middle-order resilience and disciplined bowling turned the match into a one-sided contest, sealing their fifth consecutive victory and reaffirming their dominance in the tournament.
