Despite defeat, Virat Kohli touches fresh milestone in IPL!!
text_fieldsAhmedabad: For Royal Challengers Bengaluru, it was a really hard day on Wednesday after they missed their chance to final by the strand of hair. However, RCB-ian legend Virat Kohli made another milestone with his bat on the day.
After the Eliminator match in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi Stadium here, Kohli surpassed 8,000 IPL runs after topping the IPL 2024 run scorers chart. He also became the first batter to surpass the milestone, with 244 innings in IPL. So far, he has scored eight centuries and 55 half-centuries in the tournament. He crossed the 700-runs-a-season mark, too, on Wednesday.
Virat Kohli equalled Chris Gayle in crossing the 700-runs-a-season mark twice in the tournament. Gayle had crossed the mark in 2012 and 2013, while Kohli did in 2016 and 2024. This season, only Kohli breached the mark. He scored 741 runs from 15 games at a strike rate of 154.69 this season. With an average above 60, Kohli scored a hundred as well as five half-centuries. However, his domination was shattered on Wednesday by his own earlier colleague in Bengaluru, spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.
It was in the eighth over of the first innings Kohli was taken out when he was at 33 runs from 24 balls.
With a four-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2024 Eliminator on Wednesday at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Rajasthan Royals ended their five-match losing streak. Their chase of 173 was erratic at first.
As a result, RR ended RCB's dream comeback run and won six games after being at the bottom of the points table. Now, they set up a clash with Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 2 at Chennai. The winner of the Qualifier 2 clash at Chennai will face Kolkata Knight Riders in the final on Sunday.
