New Delhi: Bharat Biotech has completed a clinical trial for the first clinically proven nasal covid vaccine, according to a top official.

Dr Krishna Ella, the chairman and MD of Bharat Biotech, said that data analysis of the study is underway, which would be submitted to the regulatory agency, according to ANI.

Dr Krishna Ella hoped that the vaccine would get permission and the world's first clinically proved nasal covid19 vaccine would come out shortly.

As well as giving approval for its 'phase-III booster dose study' for intranasal Covid vaccine, The Drugs Controller General of India's (DCGI) Subject Expert Committee (SEC) asked it to submit protocols for approval weeks ago, according to India Today.

An intranasal vaccine, according to a report on Bharat Biotech's website, stimulates a broad immune response, neutralizing IgG, mucosal IgA and T cell responses.

Thus, it further said, the vaccine creates an immune response at the site of infection (in the nasal mucosa), which is essential for blocking both infection and transmission of Covid-19."

The report said intranasal vaccine could potentially prevent transmission of covid variants including Omicron.

Bharat Biotech is the second company to submit an application for the phase-III trial of the third dose in India.
