Militant killed in Kashmir gunfight

Srinagar: A militant was killed Thursday in a gunfight between the security forces and separatist guerrillas in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district, police said.

"One guerrilla was killed Thursday in an encounter between the security forces and the guerrillas in Salkoot village of Kupwara district," a senior police officer told IANS here.

"The Rashtriya Rifles personnel and state police surrounded Salkoot Thursday morning following information about the presence of a group of guerrillas," he said.

"When the security forces closed on the militants, they started firing which triggered an encounter," he said.
