Zionist regime showed no mercy to Jewish community: Iranian Jewish MP on Tehran synagogue razing

The US-Israel-led bombardment razed an old synagogue in Tehran as the incident drew sharp criticism from the Jewish community, and a Jewish representative asserted that the Zionist regime showed no mercy to this community during the Jewish holidays while one of its ancient places of worship lay shattered beneath the debris.

An Al Jazeera report, quoting Iranian media, said that the Rafi-Nia Synagogue in central Tehran was completely destroyed following overnight strikes, and preliminary assessments indicated that the impact on an adjacent residential structure triggered a cascading collapse that engulfed the religious site.

The Shargh newspaper stated that the synagogue, regarded as a significant gathering place for Jews from the Khorasan region, had suffered total structural devastation, while the semi-official Mehr news agency suggested that the destruction occurred when a nearby building was directly targeted.

Footage circulated by local outlets showed civil defence workers navigating the dust-laden ruins, and Hebrew-language books were seen scattered across the ground.

Reports also noted that the narrowness of the streets amplified the blast impact, and both the exterior and interior sections of adjacent buildings were severely damaged, though no immediate casualty figures linked specifically to the synagogue were confirmed.

In a video released by Iran’s official broadcaster, a Jewish representative in the Islamic Consultative Assembly described the strike as an assault on a historic and sacred institution, and he lamented that Torah scrolls had been left buried beneath the wreckage.

The incident unfolded amid wider overnight attacks across Iran, in which local media said at least fifteen people were killed, while rescue teams recovered bodies from the eastern city of Pardis and officials reported additional fatalities in Shahriar, west of Tehran province.
