An Arab diplomatic delegation, led by the UAE's representative to the UN, met with senior United Nations officials to address the escalating crisis in Lebanon and the urgent need for humanitarian assistance. The discussions focused on the deteriorating situation due to the rising military conflict and the displacement of civilians.

Jamal Al Musharakh, the UAE's permanent representative to the UN, held talks with Filippo Grandi, UN High Commissioner for Refugees, emphasizing the need for immediate action as many civilians flee Beirut amidst the ongoing military escalation. They discussed the rising number of refugees as the conflict continues to intensify.

The crisis worsened earlier this week when Israel launched ground raids in southern Lebanon following heavy bombardments in areas controlled by Hezbollah. According to Lebanon’s health ministry, the conflict has claimed the lives of more than 1,000 people and has forced hundreds of thousands to abandon their homes, with many spending nights on the streets.

In addition to these talks, the Arab delegation met with Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of the World Health Organisation, to stress the urgent need for a rapid humanitarian response, including medical supplies and aid for the Lebanese population.

The delegation, including Al Musharakh and other Arab ambassadors, also engaged with Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, president of the International Committee of the Red Cross, calling for the protection of civilians during this difficult time. The talks highlighted the critical importance of safeguarding those affected by the conflict and addressing the growing humanitarian needs on the ground.
