UAE introduces first lab for developing new wheat varieties; 'Sharjah 1' to feature 19% protein content

This promising variety boasts an impressive protein content of 19%, making it the highest in the world, and is noted for its rapid growth rate.
Hybridization involves crossing two distinct varieties or species of plants to produce a new strain with desired characteristics. In the case of wheat, scientists are focused on creating hybrids that thrive in specific climates and offer enhanced nutritional value.
In addition to its research efforts, the lab employs innovative irrigation techniques to reduce water usage by 30%.
