The UAE’s Council for Fatwa has issued guidelines for Zakat Al Fitr and atonement payments for missed fasts during Ramadan this year. These regulations outline the required contributions for those observing fasting obligations and those unable to fast due to various circumstances.

Zakat Al Fitr has been set at Dh25 per person in cash or 2.5kg of rice, ensuring support for at least two underprivileged individuals. This mandatory charity must be paid before the end of Ramadan and applies to all Muslims, regardless of age or gender, who have the financial means to contribute.

The council also detailed the expiation amounts for different fasting violations and exemptions. Those who intentionally break their fast must compensate by either feeding sixty poor people or paying Dh15 per person, totaling Dh900. Alternatively, they may provide 3.25kg of wheat per person as food aid. Individuals who are unable to fast due to valid reasons must pay Dh15 per person for each missed day or offer 3.25kg of wheat per person instead.

If a person passes away before making up missed obligatory fasts, their family members must either pay Dh15 per missed day or donate 3.25kg of wheat per day on their behalf. Those who delay making up their missed fasts without a valid reason must also pay Dh15 per day per person or provide 3.25kg of wheat per person as compensation.

Anyone who knowingly swears falsely while fasting must pay Dh15 to ten poor individuals, amounting to Dh150 in total, or provide 3.25kg of wheat per person for food distribution.

These rulings provide clarity on religious obligations, ensuring that those who are unable to fast or who have missed fasting days fulfill their dues appropriately. The UAE Fatwa Council emphasizes the importance of timely contributions to support those in need while upholding Islamic principles.
