More than a year after the killing of five-year-old Hind Rajab in Gaza, US lawmakers have introduced legislation seeking an investigation into her death and broader accountability for civilian harm during the conflict.

On March 12, 2026, Senator Peter Welch and Representative Sara Jacobs introduced the Justice for Hind Rajab Act in the United States Congress. The proposed legislation would require the administration of Donald Trump to investigate the circumstances surrounding the child’s killing and assess patterns of civilian casualties linked to the war.

The move comes as the documentary The Voice of Hind Rajab gains international attention and heads to the Academy Awards. The film focuses on the child’s final moments and the global outrage that followed her death.

Lawmakers backing the bill said the legislation aims to ensure transparency and accountability in cases where civilians, especially children, are killed during armed conflicts. They also called for a broader review of civilian harm in Gaza.

An audio recording of Hind Rajab’s final moments was later released by the Palestine Red Crescent Society. The recording drew widespread attention and intensified calls for an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Supporters of the bill say the proposed law could compel the US government to examine the killing and determine whether further action or accountability measures are required.
