Saudi Heritage Commission adds 13,040 new sites to national register

The Saudi Heritage Commission has announced the registration of 13,040 additional urban sites of cultural and historical significance, bringing the total number of documented heritage locations across the Kingdom to 17,495. The updated figures reflect the commission's ongoing efforts to preserve Saudi Arabia's rich history for future generations, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The newly registered sites span multiple regions, with Riyadh recording 1,950 locations, Madinah 3,273, Al-Baha 1,531, and Hail 1,525. Other contributions include Qassim with 1,400 sites, Aseer 972, the Eastern Region 762, Makkah 571, Al-Jouf 363, Jazan 351, Najran 200, Tabuk 107 and the Northern Borders with 35.
The commission’s National Urban Heritage Register serves as a comprehensive catalog, ensuring the preservation and documentation of sites that narrate the Kingdom’s historical and cultural legacy. Advanced research methodologies and modern technologies are employed to identify and safeguard heritage sites while creating a detailed database for future reference.
