Saudi Arabia launches luxury Red Sea Project 'Coral Bloom'

On Wednesday, Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman launched a nature-oriented luxury Red Sea resort project 'Coral Bloom', developed by The Red Sea Development Company (TRSDC).

Coral Bloom is designed to harmonize the dolphin-shaped Shurayrah island's natural environment by the British architectural firm Foster+ Partners. The multi-billion-dollar project will be home to beaches, lagoons, the main island and its 11 resorts, which will be operated by the world's prominent hotel brands, in the Kingdom's west coast, according to Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

"The Coral Bloom designs, taking inspiration from the incredible flora and fauna found uniquely in Saudi Arabia, promise to make that vision a reality," said John Pagano, CEO of TRSDC. "Shurayrah Island is the gateway to The Red Sea Project, so it's important that it sets the standard in groundbreaking architecture and sustainable design, not just for our destination, but globally too. This is achieved by going beyond simply protecting the environment, to applying a regenerative approach."

The head of the studio at Foster + Partners Gerard Evenden said that the island's natural state inspired the concept and hotels will impersonate beaches and dunes' exact feels. He added that the project would be constructed to enhance the island's natural state and all the materials used are energy- efficient.

TRSDC, chaired by the crown prince, will generate a renewable energy cooling plant and a battery storage system to facilitate power and efficient centralized cooling across the destination.
