Gulf countries plan unified Arabic AI to advance digital learning
text_fieldsEducation leaders from across the Gulf gathered in Riyadh on November 6 for the 24th meeting of the GCC Committee of e-Learning Officials, organized by Saudi Arabia’s National Center for e-Learning.
The meeting brought together the GCC’s director of education, deans and e-learning leaders from universities across the region, along with specialists in digital education and artificial intelligence.
The session discussed ways to strengthen cooperation among Gulf states in digital transformation, encourage knowledge exchange and build advanced e-learning systems that align with future educational needs. Participants reviewed the latest developments in AI strategies, governance models and the use of digital tools to enhance learning environments. They also discussed policies that promote the responsible use of technology in higher education.
Delegates examined the experiences of Saudi and other Gulf universities that have implemented e-learning and AI solutions. These insights formed the basis for new recommendations on shared regulatory frameworks and best practices across the region.
The committee approved recommendations to adopt an AI reference model proposed by Saudi Arabia’s National Center for e-Learning. A proposal to develop a unified Gulf language model to support AI-based e-learning systems in higher education was also introduced.
Officials concluded that sustained Gulf cooperation will be essential to adapt education systems to rapid global advances in technology and artificial intelligence.
