The Ministry of Interior, represented by the Northern Security Department and Shell Qatar organised sports and recreational activities for workers on Tuesday as part of National Sport Day 2026 celebrations.

The event was held at the Barwa Workers Recreation Complex in Al Khor and brought together 750 workers from 14 major companies operating in the northern region. The program was organised in cooperation with Barwa Real Estate Group and Waseef Company.

Activities were conducted with the participation of the Ministry’s Human Rights Department and the Qatar Police Sports Federation. The program included group exercises, sports competitions and awareness sessions highlighting the importance of physical activity for physical and mental well-being.

Organisers said the event aimed to promote sport as part of daily life, in line with the objectives of National Sport Day and Qatar’s broader goal of building a healthy society.

Colonel Ahmed Saad Al Mohannadi from the Northern Security Department said the initiative “embodies the integration between security and community aspects and contributes to enhancing health and social awareness among workers, thereby supporting social stability and reinforcing the concepts of prevention and quality of life”.

Hussain Al-Hijji, General Manager of Corporate Relations at Shell Qatar, said organising the “Bedar Initiative” alongside National Sport Day “reflects Shell Qatar’s commitment to empowering communities and raising awareness among workers. Their participation in national activities enhances their sense of belonging and supports a more harmonious and sustainable work environment”.

The organisers said the activities reflect cooperation between institutions in marking national events and support the goals of health and sustainability.

The “Bedar Initiative”, led by Shell Qatar in partnership with the Ministry of Interior, focuses on raising awareness among workers, encouraging their participation in national events and promoting safety, security and quality of life in Qatar.
