Kuwait summons Iranian envoy over Boubyan Island breach

The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry on Tuesday summoned Iran’s ambassador in protest over what it described as an incursion by members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) into Boubyan Island, which led to an exchange of fire with Kuwaiti army personnel.
Deputy Foreign Minister Hamad Al-Mashaan met Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Toutonchi and handed over an official memorandum condemning the incident, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Kuwait expressed strong denunciation of what it called a hostile act and urged Iran to halt such actions immediately and without conditions.
The ministry said Iran bears full responsibility for the incident, describing it as a clear violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty and a breach of international law, the UN Charter and UN Security Council Resolution 2817/2026.
Kuwait also reiterated its right to defend itself under Article 51 of the UN Charter and said it would take necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and ensure the safety of its citizens and residents.
