Kuwait Crown Prince meets UN Secretary-General, voices support for UN's vital role
text_fieldsKuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, representing His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, underlined Kuwait’s support for the United Nation's vital and critical role during a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Sunday. The talks were held on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
At the outset, Sheikh Sabah conveyed greetings from the Amir and praised the Secretary-General’s efforts in advancing the UN’s mission. He emphasized Kuwait’s recognition of the organization’s pivotal role in promoting peace, security and sustainable development worldwide.
The discussions touched on key themes of the UN’s 80th session, which coincides with the organization’s founding anniversary. Sheikh Sabah congratulated Guterres on the milestone, describing it as an opportunity for the international community to renew its commitment to reforming the UN and strengthening its mechanisms to address global challenges.
The meeting also addressed the high-level agenda items, particularly the session on Palestine and the two-state solution, jointly chaired by Saudi Arabia and France. Both sides underscored the importance of advancing tangible steps toward recognizing the State of Palestine as a full UN member, with support from major global powers.
For his part, Secretary-General Guterres commended Kuwait’s historic and constructive role in supporting UN initiatives and international diplomacy, noting its contributions to peace, humanitarian relief and sustainable development.
The meeting was attended by Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya, Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs at the Amiri Diwan Mazen Issa Al-Issa, Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Tariq Mohammad Al-Bannai and other senior officials.
