Tripoli: The authorities unearthed A dozen unidentified bodies from four newly found mass graves in Tarhuna, the western city of Libya. The count of total bodies recovered tallied up to 98 since the recapture of the city by the UN-backed government forces from the rival eastern-based army in June, according to news sources.

The country sank into an intricate civil war after the longtime leader Muammar Gaddafi was overthrown in 2011, leading an open rivalry between the Government of National Accord (GNA) and the eastern-based Libyan National Army (LNA). Ever since both sides got engaged in an armed conflict for more than a year in and around Tripoli. The fight came to an end with the announcement of the government taking over of the western region.

The government forces accused the eastern-based army of committing mass killings in Tarhuna.

The UN Security Council initiated on Tuesday a permanent ceasefire agreement between the rival sides and has called on its immediate implementation to reach a political solution.
