Youth Congress complains against Kerala Speaker for 'false attack' claim on Minister Veena George

Thiruvananthapuram: The row over an alleged assault on Health Minister Veena George escalated Thursday as Youth Congress filed a police complaint against Assembly Speaker A.N. Shamseer for spreading a “false narrative” of an attack by activists at Kannur railway station.
The complaint claims Shamseer, absent from the scene, was first to publicly allege the assault—after meeting George on the platform—shaping the narrative without verification.
Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan slammed the Speaker, stating that a person holding such a constitutional office should not have “resorted to spreading unverified claims”. He added, "Till now, there has been no documentary evidence of any Youth Congress activist coming anywhere near the Minister,."
Satheesan also targeted CPI(M) State Secretary M.V. Govindan for claiming activists "grabbed and twisted" her neck: "How can a person of Govindan’s stature spread such canards?"
No clear visuals prove a direct assault. CPI(M) calls it premeditated; opposition says claims lack proof. The episode now fuels debate on accountability and constitutional propriety.
George, injured in a protester-police clash where she intervened, is recovering at Pariyaram Medical College with neck and hand injuries. CM Pinarayi Vijayan condemned it as reflecting Congress's "deplorable political culture."
