Top Malayalam stars decide to stay away from AMMA , many worried
text_fieldsKochi: Following the resignation of executive committee of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), many in the industry are worried about when another committee would take over the organization.
The executive committee including the body’s president Mohanlal resigned from their posts on August 27 following the controversies stemming from the release of the Justice K Hema Committee report.
Now many senior members of the body are worried if superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty will ever return to the organization’s fold as the new governing body takes over it in two months, The Indian Express reported citing sources.
The outlet quoted a senior member as saying that both Mohanlal and Mammootty would not want to be associated with the association as they took the developments ‘seriously and personally’.
The senior member said that ‘big stars’ have decided to stay from the organization so long as it is under ‘scrutiny’, adding that the president of the actors’ body has always been a generally acceptable person and finding ‘such a person’ is difficult now.
Siddique, who was the general secretary of AMMA, resigned from the post following allegations against him.
The new body without superstars at the helm will certainly restrict the organisation’s efficiency, according to the report.
An AMMA member reportedly said that superstars taking part in star-shows helps the organistaion survive and without them onboard the association’s revenue will shrink.
The association depends largely on its revenue to pay pension to aging actor, meeting their medical bills.
It is reported that that both superstars wanted new members to take over the association, which, according to a senior actor, could split AMMA into factions.
