President Murmu’s spontaneous gesture leaves Kerala schoolchildren overjoyed
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: During her visit to Kerala, President Droupadi Murmu created a rare and heartwarming moment on Thursday when she stopped her convoy near Sivagiri Mutt in Varkala to personally greet a group of schoolchildren. The brief encounter left a deep impression on the excited students and their teachers.
The children, dressed in crisp NCC uniforms and holding yellow flowers grown in their school garden, had gathered along the roadside hoping to catch a glimpse of the President. To their astonishment, the motorcade came to a sudden halt and security personnel signalled that the President herself would alight.
Smiling warmly, President Murmu walked over to the group, accepted the flowers, and exchanged a few words with the students. One child recalled her saying, “We will meet again.” Teachers and students alike were visibly moved by the encounter.
“We never imagined that the President would actually get out of the car and walk towards us. We were waiting with flowers which we had grown in our school garden,” said a teacher. “We were thrilled and caught completely by surprise when she came over and collected the flowers from us. It’s something we’ll never forget,” added a student, still thrilled by the unexpected moment.
Local residents and officials accompanying the convoy described the scene as genuine and unscripted, reflecting the President’s humility and warmth.
Following the interaction, President Murmu continued her visit to Sivagiri Mutt, a revered spiritual centre founded by social reformer Sree Narayana Guru. Her two-day stay in the state capital concluded on Thursday evening.
She is scheduled to attend a function in Kottayam later in the day and will spend the night at the tourist destination of Kumarakom. Her Kerala visit will conclude on Friday, when she departs for Delhi from Kochi after another official engagement.
