Malappuaram: Independent MLA from Kerala’s Nilambur, PV Anvar, got arrested late on Sunday after some drama. Anvar, who was part of the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the state and broke away recently, was arrested in a case of vandalism of a Divisional Forest Office of Nilambur, The Hindu reported.

A large group of police was stationed at the MLA’s house in Edavanna around 8:00 pm on the day, and amid uncertainty, Anvar came out and gave himself to the police.

Before that, Anvar said that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had unleashed a rule of terror, employing police. He said that he was at home only and would have surrendered if the police had served a notice. There was no need for the police to create a drama at his house, surrounding it at night.

He then said that he was oppressed by the state administration for speaking for the farmers of the Christian community who lived in the forest borders. CM Vijayan became his enemy when he exposed the police’s actions beyond their limits. Vijayan is a tyrant worse than Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he alleged.

A case was registered against PV Anvar MLA and 10 others for vandalizing the Nilambur Divisional Forest Office (DFO) during their protest against the killing of a tribal youth by a wild elephant in the Karulai forest. Police had cordoned off the MLAs house on Sunday night.

On Sunday morning, DMK workers led by the MLA vandalized the Nilambur DFO office, and the protest in front of the office quickly escalated into a clash. The office was closed, but the protesters broke in and smashed chairs and light bulbs. They then marched to the Nilambur District Hospital, where the body of the murdered tribal youth was kept for postmortem. The police stopped the march with a large contingent in front of the hospital
