New Delhi: The NIA said on Tuesday that it has filed a supplementary charge sheet against Saheer K.V., alleged to be part of an assault team of the now banned Popular Front of India (PFI) in connection with its probe into the Kerala PFI case.

An agency spokesperson said that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a supplementary charge sheet against Saheer, an accused in a case registered against the PFI in Kerala, reported IANS.

Saheer, a resident of Palakkad and the Pattambi area secretary of the PFI, was apprehended by the Absconder Tracking Team of the NIA on May 16 this year.

The official said that Saheer had been on the run since the crime involving the targeted killing of a person named Sreenivasan on April 16 last year.

RSS activist Sreenivasan's murder was treated as retaliation for the murder of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) activist Subair who was hacked to death in front of a mosque by a few assailants a day earlier.

Saheer is believed to be a part of the PFI assault team. Multiple charges have been slapped on him under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) ACT (UAPA) and Indian Penal Code (IPC) as per NIA officials.

The NIA had filed a comprehensive charge sheet against 59 accused individuals involved in this case on March 17 this year.

Last September, the NIA had made a nation-wide crackdown on PFI alleging various offences under UAPA including spreading communal hatred, training youth in handling of weapons and raising funds for carrying out terrorist acts. The union government banned the outfit closely thereafter under the UAPA Act. An appeal for PFI was filed in the Supreme Court which directed the petitioner to approach the High Court first.

The official said that efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the remaining 10 absconding accused persons.
