KPCC chief alleges CM's role in daughter's payment scandal

Thiruvananthapuram: KPCC Chief K. Sudhakaran, on Wednesday, addressed reports regarding the Enforcement Directorate's investigation into an alleged illegal payment scandal involving the Kerala Chief Minister's daughter. He asserted that Pinarayi Vijayan's involvement would come to light through a central agency probe.

Speaking to the media in Ahmedabad, the Congress leader remarked that the case against Vijayan's daughter, Veena T, is progressing in a manner that leaves no room for concealment. He claimed that the people of Kerala would soon uncover the truth about how the Chief Minister allegedly facilitated the addition of his share of money to his daughter's wealth.

Sudhakaran's comments come just days after the Serious Fraud Investigation Office implicated Veena in the case. Referring to the Enforcement Directorate's reported move to investigate, he emphasised that the truth is poised to be revealed to the public in a transparent and factual manner.

When questioned about whether the current case would follow the same trajectory as the gold smuggling case allegedly linked to the Chief Minister's office, Congress leader K. Sudhakaran dismissed the possibility, stating that the chances are slim.

Meanwhile, CWC member Ramesh Chennithala voiced scepticism regarding the Enforcement Directorate's reported move to investigate the case involving the Chief Minister's daughter. He expressed distrust in the central agency, remarking, “During the gold smuggling case, the ED also initiated a probe, but what was the outcome? I don't have much faith in the ED investigation.”

Chennithala further accused the CPI(M) and BJP of having covert agreements, adding to the political tension surrounding the matter.

The Congress leaders' remarks come amidst media reports suggesting that the ED is preparing to file a case against Pinarayi Vijayan's daughter, Veena T, who is already under investigation by the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) for her alleged involvement in an illegal payment scandal. Reports also indicate that the Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs has approved prosecution proceedings against her in the SFIO case.

Neither the Chief Minister nor Veena has responded to allegations that the SFIO investigation uncovered payments of Rs 2.70 crore made to her by a private mining company without any services rendered.
