Thiruvananthapuram: The Communist Party of India (CPI) Kerala unit called for an open alliance with Congress in the general elections in 2024. Speaking at the 24th All India Congress of CPI in Vijayawada, the Kerala delegation urged for the same, IANS reported.

The CPI representatives from Kerala included Agriculture Minister P. Prasad and the editor of the party's mouthpiece 'Janayugam', Rajaji Mathew Thomas, who urged for the Congress at the national level during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The delegation suggested that the alliance must happen way before the elections begin, and alliances with regional parties also must be mended before the polls.

Thomas opined that a credible alternative to the BJP can be formed only through such severe steps. The leaders further said that the alliance must be an open one rather than the hide-and-seek games that the CPI-M was playing.

In the meantime, the party's organisational report suggested a low presence of youngsters in the CPI. The party is going to take steps to enforce strict measures on the upper-age limit for party office-bearers. The age of 75 years has been pitched as the cut-off age, IANS reported.
