Palakkad: A former national leader of RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh), along with his wife, have been arrested in a case of cheating by offering old machine parts from a closed factory, taking Rs 3.5 crores. Palakkad District Crime Branch arrested 60-year-old KC Kannan and his wife Jeejabhai, and the couple was remanded.

The incident in question took place in January 2023. Kannan made an agreement with an Andhra Pradesh native, Madhusudhana Reddy, the complainant, saying that he had bought a closed sugar factory, which closed 30 years ago, in Bengaluru and could give its machine parts as 'scrap'. The complaint is that they fixed a price for each part, and Kannan and his wife took Rs 3.5 crore in advance.

Madhusudhana Reddy lodged the complaint with the Pattambi Police on September 30, when the materials were not received even after six months. The Crime Branch, which took up the investigation, arrested Kannan and Jeejabai on Thursday afternoon. Though they applied for anticipatory bail, the couple wasn't granted the same.

When Jeejabhai was taken to the Malampuzha sub-jail, Kannan was taken to the Ottapalam subjail.

KC Kannan was RSS Sah-sarakaryavah.
