DGP recommends action against ADGP Ajith Kumar over false testimony
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: In a jolt for Kerala's Additional Director General of Police M.R. Ajithkumar, state police chief Sheikh Darvesh Saheb on Monday submitted a report recommending that a case can be registered against him for giving a false statement.
In the report to CM Vijayan, the state police chief said that both civil and criminal cases can be registered against Ajithkumar for his false statement against ADGP P. Vijayan.
Ajithkumar had alleged that his police colleague ADGP Vijayan had links with the gold smuggling gang. Soon after this report surfaced, Vijayan filed a written complaint against Ajithkumar with the state police chief demanding a probe.
DGP Darvesh Sahab personally initiated the probe and ultimately submitted a report exonerating Vijayan while recommending action against Ajithkumar.
Incidentally, two-time legislator P.V. Anvar, who had won as a CPI-M-backed independent candidate in January, resigned from his position after his complaint against Ajithkumar and request for an investigation were dismissed by CPI-M state Secretary M.V. Govindan and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Anvar has since shifted allegiance to the Congress-led UDF and pledged his support to the Congress candidate for the upcoming Nilambur assembly by-election. He alleged that the state police chief's report would remain unaddressed, claiming that CM Vijayan considers Ajithkumar his "third son".
"If anyone believes action will be taken based on this report, they are living in a fool’s paradise," Anvar stated.
The current Kerala State Police Chief, DGP Sheikh Darvesh Sahib, is set to retire on May 30. Six candidates are currently under consideration for his position, with ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar being the sixth on the list.
