Creator of iconic catchphrase 'Vannallo Vanamala' passes away
text_fieldsKOCHI: K N Sasidharan, known for his iconic catchphrase 'Vannallo Vanamala', passes away at the age of 72. The Malayalam film director and Ad-film maker died at his residence in Edapally, Kochi, on Monday after having a heart attack.
After graduating from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, he made his debut as a filmmaker with the 1984 film Akkare which was based on P K Nandanavarma's novel of the same name.
In the movie which starred Bharat Gopi and Madhavi, with Mammootty, Mohanlal, and Nedumudi Venu having guest roles, he had also written the script and dialogues.
His last feature film was the 2014 released Nayana which had Bollywood actor Anupam Kher and Baby Anagha in the lead roles. Kannathaya Penkutty is another famed film tar he directed and released in 1985.
Although he initially began with film direction, he moved on to making ad films. The 1990 ad for a washing soap which had the jingle Vannallo Vanamala became a super hit among Kerala households. He also ran an advertising agency in Kochi called 'Suryarekha'.
Sasidharan is survived by his wife Veena, and sons Rithu and Mukhil, and his daughter-in-law Indulekha.
His cremation will be held on Tuesday at 10 am at Edapally crematorium.
