BJP worker arrested for attacking carol group in Palakkad
text_fieldsPalakkad: A BJP-RSS activist has been arrested for allegedly attacking a carol group comprising children in Palakkad. Ashwin Raj, a resident of Puthussery Kaladithara, was taken into custody by the Kasaba police and is expected to be produced in court soon.
The incident occurred late on Monday night in the Surabhi Nagar area of Puthussery, when the accused, along with two others, reportedly attacked the carol group. The attack followed a dispute over the words “CPM” written on a drum used during the carol. The group’s band set and other equipment were also damaged.
The carol group lodged a complaint with the Kasaba police, alleging that the attack was carried out by BJP-RSS activists. Police visited the scene on the night of the incident. During the attack, the carol group managed to escape. They claimed that the assailants, armed with sticks, had come to stop them from performing.
Kasaba Inspector M. Sujith confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
Officials from the CPM Puthussery area committee said that the victims were children aged between 10 and 15 years. They alleged that BJP-RSS activists were attempting to disrupt communal harmony and the peaceful atmosphere in the area. The BJP leadership, however, denied the allegations, calling them baseless.
