Kannettumukku (Thiruvanathapuram): 22 migrant workers have reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 in the Kannettumukku area of Kerala's capital city, Thiruvanarthapuram.

The migrant workers are in the employ of a construction company located in Vazhuthycaud. Residents of Kannettumukku first came to know of the diagnosis early in the morning through a message sent by the local Resident's Association.

"We don't know who they are or where they are staying," said a local shopkeeper who declined to be named.

"Two vehicles were arranged for them and they were taken away." he added

This incident comes in the wake of state-wide restrictions laid down by the government in response to the rising number of COVID-19 cases.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced increased fines and stricter measures against violators of COVID-19 protocols.

With the Test Positive Rate (TPR) crossing 14% in October, and the number of daily cases crossing the threshold of 9000, fears abound about the lack of preventive measures taken by the public to safeguard against the spread of the virus.

For two consecutive days COVID-positive cases crossed the 1000 mark in Thiruvananthapuram.
