Heavy rain causes land slips in Idukki and Wayanad

Thiruvananthapuram: Many parts of the State Tuesday experienced heavy rains and land slip occurred at hilly areas including Idukki and Wayanad.

The land slip occured at Kanjiyaar Panchayat and Pandipara near Kattappana in Idukki district causing damage to crop and property, official sources said.

Water level at the Idukki dam increased by about 2.5 feet Tuesday as the catchment area of the reservoir was getting heavy rains.

Shutters of Malankara reservoir in Idukki district were opened today following raise in water level.

In the northern part, land slide occurred on the on the Waynad pass.

District administration has given holiday for schools including professional colleges in Alappuzha and Idukki.

The State Disaster Management Authority issued warning to the people living in hilly and coastal areas as it was reported that heavy rain would continue for next three more days.
