Thiruvananthapuram: Three Muslim girl students of Malappuram faced abusive remarks on social media for dancing in a flash mob to mark World AIDS Day on December 1 after which the Kerala Women's Commission has registered a case against the trolls.

The three students of a dental college were trolled for allegedly insulting Islam by publicly dancing at an AIDA awareness campaign on December 1 at a traffic junction in Malappuram.

The women, wearing hijabs and jeans, had performed the Entammede Jimmikki Kammal a popular number from a Mohanlal film.

The Commission Wednesday directed cyber police to initiate immediate action against those who had attacked the women in the social media and file a report.

The order in this regard was issued by the commission chairperson, M C Josephine. The abusive campaign in the social media against the women was an insult to the states culture, she said, adding stern action would be taken against those indulging in such criminal acts.

The video of the flash mob at the busy traffic junction had invited the wrath of a section of the muslim community which accused the students of causing "disgrace" to Islam.
