New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Saturday rejected a plea filed by the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) seeking exemption from payment of levy at Paliyekkara toll plaza in Thrissur district.

Ruling that it cannot exempt the Corporation alone from paying the toll, the division bench led by Chief Justice H L Dattu asked it to reach an agreement with the contractors in connection with the issue.

The KSRTC had sought exception as they are a ‘public transportation facility’. The Corporation’s counsel B Gireesh also sought special consideration taking its poor financial condition into account.

The bench, however, rejected the demand.

Guruvayur Constructions, the company collecting the toll, submitted that the Corporation owes them crores of rupees as it hadn’t been paying the levy.
