Woman training for Agniveer dies by suicide at Mumbai hostel: police

Mumbai: A woman who was training for Agniveer died by suicide in her hostel room in Mumbai.

The 20-year-old from Kerala arrived in Mumbai two weeks ago for Navy training, police said on Tuesday.

It is reported that woman had a fight with her boyfriend on Monday morning.

The man threatened to kill himself after which the woman died by suicide, NDTV reported citing police.

Her body was found in her room at INS Hamla base in Malad West and doctors declared her dead.

The Malwani police, registering a case of accidental death, have started investigation.

'Agniveer' soldiers come under the recently introduced Agnipath scheme, which sets four years’ service following six months of training.

After three and a half years of deployment, soldiers can apply for continued service in armed forces.
